Toronto's Navy Marine Waterpark and Playground
Commemorating the Canadian Navy Centennial
The aim of the Canadian Naval Centennial is to build and strengthen in Canadians an appreciation for their navy and to promote the role of the navy within the Canadian Forces in a maritime nation like Canada. 2010 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Navy. Legacy projects are being planned in communities across Canada where ships have been named after the City (e.g. HMCS Toronto).
In Toronto, the proposed legacy project is the creation of a Navy-themed water playground on Toronto’s waterfront in Sir Casimir Gzowski Park in the Western Beaches area.
Accompanying the water play features would be interpretive signage profiling the important role the Canadian Navy plays in our nation and around the world and noting key historical milestones. A ground-breaking celebration is planned for 2010, with construction and official opening to follow.
