Help Build the Thackeray Cricket Ground

Cricket is one of the fastest growing sports in the City of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area; however; there aren't enough facilities available to meet the demand for this sport. Join us today and help build a brand new space dedicated for cricket in your community of North Etobicoke, that will nurture and promote the growth of cricket in our city for years to come. The City of Toronto is contributing half of the funds for this project, but we need your donation to build it.

This new facility will:

  • Offer a safe and welcoming environment for children, youth and adults to learn about cricket and experience the sport

  • Provide opportunities to connect with other players, families and teams over your common passion for Cricket

  • Bridge the generation gap between seniors and youth in your community

  • Promote the growth of the sport of cricket locally, provincially and nationally

  • Transform a barren property into a vibrant green space for your community

  • Provide an opportunity for the public to play cricket on a brand new exhibition cricket ground dedicated to hardball cricket

The Plan

Image of Cricket Ground

Several months ago leaders in our community came together and committed themselved to creating a new cricket ground. With help from the City of Toronto and other community partners, a two-phase plan has since been developed to build an exhibition cricket ground.

The first phase of the plan calls for the transformation of an underused 3.7-acre piece of land, located near the major intersection of Steeles & Kipling Avenues and easily accessible by public transit, into a new exhibition cricket ground and park.

Designed for hosting national matches and tournaments, the cricket ground will feature ICC regulation in-field and clay-base cricket pitches, permanent spectator seating for over 300, and on-site parking. The estimated capital cost for this first phase is approximately $500,000.

The second phase includes a practice cricket net, sports lighting, automatic field irrigation, changerooms and permanent washrooms to the plan. These features will cost an estimated $1.2 million to complete the project.

The two-phase plan also seeks to ensure the vitality of the next generation of cricketers by ensuring priority access for children & youth.

The City of Toronto has committed 50% of the first-phase design and construction costs, as well as for the on-going maintenance and operation of the cricket ground. While the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority have committed, in perpetuity, the 3.7-acre parcel of land to be used for the dedicated exhibition cricket ground.
